Faith/Honest

Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.

Romans 12:17

The next lesson we must learn is how to live as honest Christians, overcoming any evil with good. Our charge is to be of a noble heart and to love with an everlasting love. Many men will tempt you to wrath but vengeance belongs to our God and it does not fall upon us to repay any man evil for evil. As Christians, we must live peaceably with all men.

This is no easy task. All but impossible for any man of attempting to do this without God. It is not possible to go back and rectify our mistakes. There must be countless mistakes we’ve already made that are impossible to rectify. The only way we can live honest lives is by trusting in the Lord our God with all of our hearts. When we go out in faith, it is in our nature to give to those in need without expecting anything in return. When we go out in faith, we will want to go the extra mile with those who compel us to action.

But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak forbid not to take thy coat also.

Luke 6:27-29

It’s hard to be wronged for our good deeds, especially when we know what is just. Nevertheless, give place to wrath, God will repay. No one can stand against us because God is with us. It is a blessing to suffer for righteousness sake. Brother Peter says we put to shame those who revile our good conversation in Christ. Again, Brother Peter says that if we can abstain from fleshly lust and conduct ourselves honorably before men, those who speak against us as villains may observe our good works and glorify God. Amen.

If the wicked are restless in their attacks against you, do not be discouraged. Do not let your soul be weary. Wait on the Lord because He will deliver you.

The life of the Christian is not all smooth. He has stern conflicts to meet. Severe temptations assail him. “The flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh.” The nearer we come to the close of this earth’s history, the more delusive and ensnaring will be the attacks of the enemy. His attacks will grow fiercer and more frequent. Those who resist light and truth will become more hardened and unimpressible, and more bitter against those who love God and keep His commandments.

(Manuscript 33, 1911) {BC 1111.7}

It isn’t enough that we abstain from evil. Our lips must also speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine. When we speak the words that God puts into our hearts, men will become sober, reverent and temperate. Our women will refrain from slandering and become teachers of good things. The power of speech can avail many things.

Consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

Hebrews 12:3

Come and let us refrain from complaining like the crooked and perverse generation. We must be obedient servants so that we may be blameless, shining as a light in this world. We must fear God and submit ourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake.

Though the world is against you, I beg you, please, cast aside your wrath. Let go of self. Vengeance belongs to the Lord our God and He will repay. Pursue peace, and holiness, with all men, as much as possible. Follow the example of our Savior. Did not our Lord forgive the men who crucified Him and asked His Father to forgive them as well? Our Saver suffered the death of the cross by the hands of wicked men so that all can be saved.

The law of God requires that man shall love God supremely, and his neighbor as himself. When through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, this is perfectly done, we shall be complete in Christ.

(Letter 11, 1892) {5BC 1097.8}

We are the light of the world. Men do not light a candle to hide it under a bushel but to place it on a candlestick. We must let our light shine so that all may see it. Our light comes from Jesus, He shines through us, and it may be the only light some men see. We must have the strength and courage to follow Jesus unto the day of perfection, shining brighter and brighter even while in a world cast into darkness. If a soul is converted because of our example, then praise God. Our troubles were not in vain.
